Whatcha watchin'

Every now and then I check new channels (aka apps) on the Roku just to see what might be offered.. Also I will load new channels and try them out and also check what I have had on my list for the better part of since getting the box.. The Youtube channel (proper) is good but just misses the mark with certain instances, mainly the lists that I have.. If I want to see a concert I have to hope it can get there eventually.. What is easier is to type in the name of the group and then go through the list that shows up.. Hope it's in there.. I say Youtube proper because there is a second, easier to use side loaded channel called myVIDEOBUZZ formerly VIDEOBUZZ that can watch any video channel, but I still watch Youtube with it.. And it is better by far but is a sideloaded channel which is quite easy to do but you have to read the instructions and ignore one step.. Very crucial that you ignore the unloading of the file that holds the program in it. You load the entire thing, without opening it with anything.. Another channel I've had but rarely watch seems to no longer be working.. The shows that it has hasn't updated anything since August.. That channel is Portico, and it has (had) People, Time, AP News ... amongst others and it isn't that I just noticed recently but rather I waited hoping they were in some sort of lull of some sort.. Lull should be over now when the Pope was in the country.. Their Twitter account hasn't had an update entry since late July..  Then there is Bizarre TV.. I really liked this channel and have had it on my lineup since.. Since it started up three years ago.. Last year the person(s) stated they were going to start a second channel and so I got it and waited and waited and waited.. And excuse after excuse.. I didn't really care, the first channel was fine and truth is I didn't hardly watch it anyway.. Well then the BTV2 channel would go to a pay once channel and would start up shortly type of thing.. I decided not to pay for it because I hardly watch the free channel.. They said the free channel would remain free indefinitely and I thought fine, I rarely watched it but when I did I would sit there for a few minutes.. Then last month they said the free channel will now be a twenty dollar one time fee, and be a private channel.. With that I thought you know, I watch that channel maybe an hour a month MAYBE  and while I hate to see it go bye bye.. I'm not going to pay for a channel I rarely watch when it was free.. Why would I pay for it now to hardly ever watch it.. So by this Thursday it will be gone from my lineup.. And that is ok.. I have a lot of other channels that bring weird shit..

What cha see.. is what you get..

Sunday was the eclipse of the blood moon and I had seen it on the space weather site and Mer-Kat channel on the Roku had several people covering it with their gadgets as well U-stream had several people covering it.  I forgot about it until they showed it during the game last night.. So at half time I went out with my trusty camera and tripod and tried my hand at shooting it..

This video was the product of over twenty minutes of continuous shooting.. By the end the camera had lost it completely.. I never saw the full eclipse on the camera.. I did see it in person.. I just could not for the life of me get the camera to find the red full eclipse.. Bummer..

The movies I watched were limited mostly because of football games being on.. Wicked Blood reminded me of the tv show Justfied without the Marshal Givens part.. But about the same material..

Jeff Dunham Arguing With Myself .. I've seen a lot of his material and it just felt good to watch this one from the very start..

Burying the Ex.. Wow fairly morbid but still quite funny and very predictable.. But fun just the same..

Chris Porter Ugly and Angry...  This was the best comedy I've seen in a while.. I mean I like what I watch but this guy actually made me laugh..  OUT LOUD....

Whas the matter

We were getting ready to head to the big city Friday as usual, we head down there about noon to get the weeks supplies and then pick up the nephew for the weekend and.. Start the car and it feels weird pulling out of the driveway, it has this rumbling feeling as we back out.. I feel it because I'm driving, mom doesn't notice.. As we get to the edge of the driveway I think well is it the tire.. The right rear is giving us troubles.. So I check it and it is low but not flat completely.. All the other tires are full as well, that's not the issue.. I hop back in ad the dash lights are all kosher except for one.. CHECK ENGINE light is flashing.. The last time the check engine light was on.. solid on and it turned out to eventually be the thingies.. Technical talk I know I just lost you on that one.. Anyway that effected how the engine ran.. This right now did a little.. So.. We test drive around the block as the light blinks and stays that way.. We get back and I shut the engine off.. Start it back up again and it runs quite well.. then we decide to take the "life raft" car the 'vic ... When we were getting ready to hop in the other car I noticed a foul smell.. Rotten eggs and instantly I thought catalytic converter.. Why I thought that I have no idea I know more about the car.. Where the gas goes.. and that's about it.. I Google it just now and that sounds like what it is..  But after we get the vic ready to go and it's gas gauge is nearly on E.. For some reason we won't go into now.. And as we are going down the road mom is saying well could it have been the tire??  No, it's not something that would show engine trouble.. My feeling was catalytic converter.. Her hopes is that it is the rubber band that we wind as we are ready to roll down the road..  Not that either..  Guess we'll find out who is right..

End of season

 Usually I wait until first frost to get the pumpkins off the vines but this year I decided to go on what turned out to be the first day of fall..  The picture above is the pumpkin that was in the tree area next to the gas meter.. This variety is one of the several giant that are available.. There were two at the local seed dispenser aka Walmart.. They went into the ground the week after Memorial day.. Sometime that week.. I originally wanted to plant four.. Turns out I planted more than that mostly because.. Well I suffer from what is commonly called DUMB.. And it can hit me at the most inopportune times, and the day these got planted I had a brain fart the size of Texas hit me..

 The bottom side of the pumpkin from the tree, not quite complete but who knew??  My biggest fear was vine rot on this one.. I could only feel down so far and I never felt rot there.. How big is it?? How much does it weigh??  It weighed enough that every time I walked by it my arms had that tearing of shoulder and elbow sound that we all love to hear... I could hardly wait to lift this bad boy up and move it.. I would say it weighed ...  oh let's just say  A LOT.. 

 The whole of the lot except for the three that were accidentally knocked off the vines in August.. Eight pictured here.. Plus the three in front makes..  Well...  You do the math, my toes are covered and that screws up the calculator..

Now how to prepare the seeds.. I'm looking at trying something different. Last year I marinated them in various hot sauces my brother had given me for Christmas the previous year.. This year I'm not sure what we will do.. I figure we still have a few weeks until they will be carved.. Carved??  Well last year  my nephew wanted to carve them and we let him.. And that lasted for two of the five we had.. You have to realize, these are not carving pumpkins because the walls are thicker than the kind you buy to carve them.. These things can be huge with record sizes that can be had, some in excess of three hundred pound.. These didn't get that large mostly because the got hailed on, tearing the "solar panels" to shit in July.. I was completely surprised when they set on as much as they did and grow as well as they did.. They started getting attacked by bugs, by the weather, and in the pumpkin patch proper it looked like some one let their dog romp through there.. But the pumpkins were fairly resilient and grew anyway.. The pictures of the vines in earlier entries showed these plants love to grow EVERYWHERE.. I actually would have traded and just had five pumpkins if they would have been huge.. Ten is the best I've ever had, ten true pumpkins, the other three are small and might not make seeds at all..  Seeds are the only reason I grow pumpkins for.. If you want one of these big guys you can have one but I want the seeds, and if you don't carve it bring it back  after halloween and I will carve them..

(P.S. I was trying to get the vines taken care of.. the main reason I took the vines apart yesterday was we get this letter in the village bill that has the water/sewer/trash collection and they made mention through the summer for people to keep their yards under control IE keep the weeds trimmed.. This seemed like it could easily be pointed in my directions so after the last one I thought if they could wait until nearly the end of the month I would comply.. Trouble is some of those weeds are like trees and might be easier to cut down with a chainsaw.. I cut some of the pumpkin vines and put them in the compost tumbler.. Mowed some of the weeds/vines down and put them in the compost tumbler.. Todays entire mowing was placed in the tumbler as well.. It will take three days for it to  leave the packing state it is in right now..

So when is the first frost going to happen??  Well it could happen any day now.. i've looked and first frost could be around the tenth of October.. However they have a celebration near here and the last two or three years it has turned off cold enough to frost so.. My bet would be that weekend, the first weekend of October..  Oktoberfest).

What can I say about Drop Zone?? Well I own it.. on VHS tape.. So why watch it on Netflix then?? 

An honest liar.. About a guy who spoofed those who fool the world.. If you are able to be lied to by people who do this for a living.. you deserve to be taken.. Yeah it seems like you could say no but..

Race to Nowhere, possibly the scariest movie you will see.. It's about the education system in America and .. Well we aren't educating the kids here so much as turning them into school hating people.. My feeling is they need to reevaluate the way they teach here.. Watch this movie and see where I almost lost it several times.. Kids are NOT all the same.. Why should they all have to be taught the same exact way?? 

Food Inc. .. Here is another documentary on our food system here in America and how screwed up it can be..  But there are those trying to be organic.. It's an up hill fight but they are there..

So why did I seem to watch more movies this weekend than any previous?? Well it's not from the weekend only.. When Friday Night Lights ended last Tuesday night I went through a withdrawl of sorts as I do with anything that has a sudden ending.. I needed something to watch to clean the pallet, cleanse the pallet as it were to wipe that shows memory bank clean.. The actress Ami Teagarden was really ..  a good reason to watch that show.. But then I ran a series of documentaries and shorter movies in that time slot.. This week will see yet another tv show in it's place..

Time table skewered

Two weeks ago I started a new batch of compost and this time I was going to adhere to the time table.. Try to anyway and everything was going fine.. The first things to be put in was the vine next to the porch, or as much as I could fit.. The next day was grass clippings, and this filled it up to over full, or snug full.. the week after was compost reaction time adding a few things here and there.. Labor day weekend saw the addition of  a pumpkin that was rotting.. No bid deal, the time line was still good. Then Tuesday I checked another pumpkin, it had developed a pimple Monday and when I checked it, felt it, it was soft.. When it is soft after feeling hard until then it is in early stages of rot.. Adding that pumpkin to the compost pile (tumbler) through the timeline out of whack.. I needed some grass clippings so I set the platform on the lawnmower down a couple notches and grabbed the grass catcher and mowed a small up to the wall and back to get just enough clippings to cause a reaction in the pile to help get that nug pumpkin to start the compost reaction to go faster.. Checked it yesterday and thought since the timeline is screwed I might as well put more grass clippings in there.. So I bagged only the front.. What I didn't know was there was a nice amount of leaves and that made a great mix that when all is said and done should give a good combination to get the composting reaction to actually go faster.. My timeline might be about the same.. Wednesday will be when it gets dumped and also when the pumpkin harvest will be.. And also when the next batch of compost will begin with the cleaning up of the weeds that are growing like I wanted them to.. I know we are not in compliance with the control your damn weeds rules, but I had this coming Wednesday as when I will get things under control.. And to be completely honest I tried to keep the weeds under control early in the season spraying a home made concoction that had the warning "don't spray this where you want something to grow because it won't grow for quite some time".. And what that meant is  NOTHING WILL EVER GROW THERE EVER AGAIN   *except weeds, weeds will grow like a cash crop*... But isn't that just the way it is.. So I will put the weeds and weeds and more weeds into the new batch, then the next day mow and get the clippings in there and get the new batch to grow with the hopes that the pile core will hit the temperature that will render the weeds sterile.. That's the plan anyway..

Mostly since I can't get the tree and other stuff up to the tree dump I have devised a plan to bury them, and I think it is quite an interesting way to do this.. I'm going to bury them in all the planters.. Along the fence and that should raise the soil by a foot or so.. I come up with inventive ways to do things like that.. More organic planting that way.. Like using the small area by the gas meter as a good place where I dump the compost where it can become finished product.. I used some of that yesterday to fill in a dip in the lawn..

I added a fairly big piece of tree limb to the compost tumbler, not to make it into compost but rather to have it aid in keeping the compost from clumping up.. Just an experiment there.. Also I might try wood shavings from my brothers wood working.. Saw dust and clippings from his various toys that he is using to make things with. Might try that next year.. The idea is to use it as a drying agent of sorts, sort of like when people get out of the shower and use talcum powder to help dry certain areas of the body..  The compost from every other year I added water, but this year I stopped that practice, it has been wet.. Really wet which I think it is supposed to be, but then it clumps up so bad.. I'm yet to ever mack a batch that is nice and fluffy.. Fluffy... Anyway trying dried leaves which I now have plenty to help dry the batch and I'm yet to get it to be the way I want it to be.. Oh well it wouldn't be fun if it was easy..

(P.S. I guess I should have said what the timetable is for compost.. A true batch should be started with all of everything that is going to be in it and not add anything else, should take between 14 and 21 days to complete.. The directions say 14 days, I've never had it be completely done in that short of time but it could be considered  done and if you don't mind the earth doing the final week it is fine doing it that way. For me I start with a full tumbler of grass, three days later add leaves, then within the first week to ten days add other yard waste such as tomatoes that are in rot of some sort, pumpkins with rot... Whatever.. This week saw a pumpkin get added.. That threw my time table completely out of what, adding the grass clippings yesterday and hoping the pumpkin will be gone next Wednesday when I will bury it and let the area I have it in do the rest.. So far the "fluffy"  compost that they show on the commercial hasn't been achieved but then up until this year I  I thought you were supposed to turn it once or twice a week.. Turns out you are supposed to turn it every day and you have to do it or it will not work as oxygen is an ingredient that has to be in there to make it work and when it sits for very long that ingredient can't get in..  So the timetable can be two to three weeks.. )

Infinite Improbability

What happens when a show gets dropped from Netflix before you get to watch the entire run of the series??  In this case I'm talking about the show Coach.. I started watching the series back when I started watching the series Cheers and Frazier as well as that 70's show.. See the dropped That 70's show for about a month.. I was well into the series and was really wanting to see it, and they dropped it and I didn't even know it was going to be dropped.. That was the last surprise to happen with Netflix, I have kept an eye on their list of what's going and coming every month.. That 70's show being dropped got a lot of subscribers  to write Netflix and tell them exactly how they felt and that was enough to get the show back on and it hasn't been taken down since, but when it came back I had no idea how long it would be back so I went into semi-binge watch mode.. Where I was watching an episode a day (night) I would watch two or three per night.. So when they said Coach would be leaving, when I found out I was sitting on the 93rd episode to play, with the run going to 199 shows.. I figured with that number I could binge watch and get through the series but on evaluation of the show.. When it was on tv back somewhere in the late 80's or 90's I .. Watched the first season, maybe the second and then really not much after that. I wasn't sure how important it would be to watch it all.. So I decided to watch the season I was in, and that meant something like ten shows.. I thought ok yeah I can do that.. But then something happened.. I didn't watch but two more shows in the following three weeks.. Come on.. I've got til the end of September to get these last few in.. Then this past Monday I went to the show.. Looked at the series and was starting to pick and chose which few shows I would watch and then clicked out and thought, sure.. That should be enough and then I saw the notice on the lower right of the show descritper and it said this show available until the 15th.. THE 15TH??  I thought it was the end of the month.. Well that made it easy.. Goodbye Coach.. It might be back later.. You never know..

Squirrels is good eats..

So the other day we were at walmart and everything is going along just fine and then I'm standing there, examining the products on the shelf when suddenly I feel what feels like a fly on my face walking down my cheek.. So I swipe it to get it off.. It was a ball of sweat.. And suddenly I am sweating profusely.. What the hell.. I start walking slowly towards the bathrooms and then the feeling hits me.. I'M GONNA PUKE... This is when I start looking for trashcans as I head to the rear restrooms.. Aw there's one there and then I see another.. They are perfectly spaced between where I was to where I was going.. I was no longer afraid of letting loose in an aisle and figured everything would be fine but as I turned to go towards the goal line (the restrooms) the feeling subsided and wouldn't return the rest of the day.. Fun, wasn't that???  I can hardly wait for summer to be GONE..

I watched the final two episodes of Friday Night Lights.. Did I write those two episodes because it was so predictable.. Which parts??  ALL OF IT.. Man, sorry I saw how it was going to end.. Except for one thing, I thought the guy who gave Vince that money was going to extract revenge in one of the last two episodes by either killing Vince or his father or both or his whole family.. Would that have been bad?? It would have been more realistic.. 

The latest video I uploaded to my YouTube site has gotten so many views that I have decided to upload the long version.. The long version is closer to an hour so it will take a day to get it up there.. The longer version has more of the parade, or I should say it has more of the candy getting machines that are he kids.. Or the adults helping the kids get their fair share..  It won't be linked on Facebook, it will just be there.. If you don't have the site linked or bookmarked then you won't see it..

Working on the end of days of the Phudge Nuts blog... Truth is that blog has lasted longer than it should have.. The final entry will be a video that is there, it will be moved up from it's current resting place of 2020.. It will be next year sometime.. It will be worked on in October for a final day of... well sometime next year or there about.. Why end it??  Blogging is quickly becoming a lost art.. And that site just needs to end..  I've been thinking about ending it for quite a while now, and sometime next year will be the final entry..  How will you know??  Does the initials Y.M.B. mean anything??  Well it will be explained in full detail that day.. The entry is already there I just have to find out when it will be.. And then you will know when it finally hits.. This blog here will remain as is until I am ready for it to go.. And a new blog that will replace PNOP??  To start a new one defeats the purpose of ending that one doesn't it??  This blog will replace that one with a few cool memes scattered here and there..

The other day I was trying to get video of the squirrels eating nuts and while I was doing that a butterfly was flying around the backyard, and as it flew it was meandering around flying up where I was and I was just watching it as it flew right into the house.. The loud crashing noise, followed by smoke starting to flow as it started the slow task of crashing...  Well actually it was like seeing the little guy hit the house then back away and continue on with it's journey, unfazed by the tragedy that was a little hiccup in it's travels on the day.. I compare it to walking into a glass door, backing up and continuing on.. Embarrassed but ok..

Another week another Texas ref struck by a player..

Here was my comment: Maybe Texas is just that stupid.. The coaches and the players.. I think they should issue a statewide ruling that if the players hit a ref they will be penalized with losing the ability to not play football at any level ever again and possibly sent to jail with assault with a deadly weapon..

(No but I do think it would have gotten worse.. Kids have no respect and it is a game after all.. )

I watched stuff this weekend.. It's movie night.. Friday night it was return to the oldies (?) night.. 

 Chevy Chase is.. Fletch.. Yeah I know he is a serious dick but he was good (?) in this little romp.. I always liked him no matter what everyone said about him.. From his SNL days to Caddyshack (where they nearly had to twist his arm off to get the movie done)  but I liked the stuff he has done.. The early stuff.. 

The comic was Eddie Murphy and the show was Delirious.. Yep the material is dated but it all gets that way.. But this is a really good show..  He works blue and can be politically incorrect but aren't they all?? 

Infini has that 28 days later feel to it.. But it isn't about that but rather a space sci-fi flick.. A fairly good waste of nearly two hours.. 

Sunday morning was this gem 

The Wrecking Crew.. more about session musicians from back in the sixties and they played on more groups that I ever thought.. You name it from that era everyone used the wrecking crew.. 

The making of Good Vibrations by the beach boys.. Just an example of how great these guys were and how good this movie is..

(P.S.  (it's been a while since I ps'ed) Um.. right..  the  tv show Friday Night Lights and I am currently in "binge" watching mode for the final seven episodes and I watched to the last two tonight.. It seems very predictable what is going to happen..  For sure if I were to fathom a guess I would say the coach will opt out of trying to fight for his job.. He has worried about the kids for every season, worried about their stupid mistakes and all that fun.. I think he wants to go where he doesn't have to worry about a lot of issues having to do with high school.. Then there is the two schools becoming one once again.. Who didn't see this coming?? Seriously, did you not pay attention when Matt's real mother showed up and was staying at "the only hotel in Dillon" .. So how big did the town suddenly get that they could redistrict to have the East Dillon high school be reopened?  Was there a sudden boom growth there that they could open the second school.. They lost credibility there.. And hey that Lucas going with the girl he knocked up. she got an abortion and.. Tim gets out of jail and tells him to use protection this time.. At least Tim was paying attention to the script.. I mean this show had a good cult following but I can tell when a show gets cancelled.. And they know they are on borrowed time.. I like the show but it gets into speed reading mode and with two shows left what is there left to say.. It's like One Tree Hill.. Great show but it got to the point where it had to end.. Nobody wants to see their favorite characters into the nursing home.. And it was a really good show but it had to end and it had the feeling of we could show you more but it really is like episode 22 on season five through until these last twenty.. Such drama..  So after this teen drama will be yet another teen drams ... Why??  I don't know.. It's... something to watch.. )

On Netflix this movie is now been retitled Rambo First Blood. On my old VHS it is First Blood.. I have seen this movie quite a few times.. It really is a classic isn't it??  And now with veterans from the gulf wars trying to assimilate into society it can be for them as well..

Demitri Martin was the stand up comedy show from Friday night.. Really good, I had never seen him before..

Time Lapse is a sci-fi flick that really was quite interesting to watch..  About a guy who was experimenting with time travel and ended up with something completely different from what he was originally trying for..

Area 51... Besides the first five minutes, when do we figure out these people aren't going to live??  Yep I did the spoiler there, yeah theay all die but it's an interesting way they all do.. And actually we never see the girl die so there could be a sequel.. You never know..

Patton Oswalt Tragedy plus comedy equals time.. If you've never seen this guy in shows like Justified.. Well he is a comic and he is interesting as well.. Not  a really blue comic either, just one of those every day story teller type.. Observes what happens at stores and in life and puts a humour spin on it..

Ive never seen this one from start to finish EVER.. Apocalypse Now..  A classic I suppose.. I mean it qualifies but the bad thing is it is well over two hours and the redux version done in 2001 is over three hours.. I wanted to see the redux but thought better of it..

When will I ever learn..

Well the other day (Monday) I was checking the pumpkins again for rot and one of them that is quite orange looked great and I picked it up a little, felt for the rot.. Great no rot then snap.. The damn thing broke off from the vine.. That's the third one and we weren't even in September..  Well set it in the shade there hope it doesn't decay in the heat.. Had these broken off next week it would be less of a reason to freak out because it is supposedly going to cool off a little.. It's like my older brother has always said it's like labor day is the beginning of cooler weather, and he's right.. This week it's like the first week of September but it's like labor day could have been Monday but it is always the first Monday of the month and this year it comes on the very last day of the first week of the month..  All the pumpkins are doing fine.. The biggest pumpkin I have is still hangin' in there.. It hurts my arms to look at it.. How much will it weigh??  Good question.. The second largest one might be close to a hundred pounds, and this one in the tree might be twice the size, it's hard to tell what with being in the trees like that.. The number of pumpkins that still have a good chance to be fully developed is around twelve.. Hoping that the number ten might still happen.. Fingers crossed..

I have to learn that when I put a comment on the Facebook that I could have a reply I don't agree with or might make me.. pissed off.. Well I recently replied that with the state getting enough signatures to put the death penalty back on the ballot that I fealt it was a waste of time.. They rarely use it in any state and ours is the same, it's more of a joke.. Here is my comment : "Such an important issue to get your way.. I mean the death penalty will only mean something if it actually gets used and gets used in a more timely manner.. These criminals know they will spend years on death row.. I say from the day they are sentenced they have five years and then they are put to death.." 

And the reply by someone..:
"So you would like to do away with the right to due process? What other constitutional rights shall we give up to fulfill your disgusting bloodthirst?" 

That wasn't my intent at all.. Basically what I was meaning was that the death penalty is rarely used and when it is they can spend the next fifty years appealing it..  To me I felt like if they were found guilty that they should get five years to appeal it and if it isn't then they are put to death on the fifth year of their conviction.. Is five years not long enough??  Maybe not but there should be an appeals court that runs those cases exclusively and they should get that completed in a fairly timely manner.. Is five years long enough??  Set a time limit of some sort, be that five, seven, ten...  However long but set a limit otherwise to me it comes off being a bit of a joke..
