Dads memorial tree.. Planted in May of the year after dad passed away.. The reason we decided on this particular tree is it was the kind of tree that was at the Dialysis center in Fort Collins.. We never noticed that tree there before the last time we went there.. It was changing red.. I loved that colour and so when a memorial tree was trying to be decided upon.. That one popped to mind..
It's hard to get the perspective of the tree.. How old was it?? Well when we put it in the tree from the root ball to the top was about eight feet tall, maybe even taller.. We had it for ten years.. Five years ago (I think) the wind nailed it.. Like this year it seemed like a fluke direction that pulled it over.. I hooked straps to it even though they told us to not bother.. Got it upright.. Kept it strapped for a year to the day it was pulled over.. There was a noticeable bow in it but it stayed upright.. We'll keep it..
I was just out back watching the tree in the middle of the back yard dancing with the wind the bending of branches and feeling like this tree could fall at any time.. Came in the house and was standing in the front room when I heard a pop sound.. A thump pop sound.. I thought the tree fell.. It's been in sad shape all season, I'm waiting to cut the branches down, but the wind did it for me thank.. Then out of the corner of my eye.. Dad's memorial tree was what had snapped.. Incredible amount of energy was unleashed to destroy a tree like that.. Someone said they measure 109 mph wind.. Yep that will do it..
Branches everywhere..
Shortly after the final rain drop fell a branch at the end of the ramp fell.. I just had stepped out to view things and decide if I could bring the camera out to shoot pictures and do video,, A branch could have fallen on me.. Or worse fallen shortly on one of the nephews.. I didn't trust the weather or the tree.. As the wind would pick up again more branches fell out of different trees.. Not big branches but rather leaves things..
The rain Gauge shows it all.. 2.2 inches..
Down by the park. This was a branch.. Fell from a huge tree.. Huge old tree..
These trees are grand old trees, from back before I was ever born..
it hadn't..
The neighbors fence.. You can see the trampoline in their back yard.. Had it been where it was earlier in the day it might have gone for a wind ride.. He moved it when he mowed the lawn that morning..
My nephew Ian being blurry.. Poor guy.. Ryan in the foreground ..
A shot of the ground.. Very impressive.. you can thank me later..
From the other side a little on return from the walk to the corner.. What surprised me the most was the foot print of the storm.. You can literally see where the storm was horrible and where nothing happened..
A thought did cross my mind as the sun was setting.. Should I try to cut the branches back a little, just in case an emergency would arise?? Nah.. What could happen?? Well.. Mom falling.. But that hasn't happened in a while.. And so I was in bed when she did fall.. Thankfully Ian was still up...
Tree branches up by the old tennis court, trees were topped I guess..
This was a really nice tree in the yard of the school.. I had just been up by there earlier in the week or so and made the comment to mom, what a nice tree this was.. The trees are really nice up there..
It was uprooted.. UFB if you ask me..
A branch by where a girl that I went to school with lived.. They moved into another house and had lived there longer than this place but when I describe where this or that happened I will say well down by where Skov's lived not knowing who lives there now..
The sun was setting through this all.. This is down by where my mom and dad ran a snack shop thing and also by a guys bar.. Wholly shit, hit again.. That wasn't very long ago that that happened..
Ditch by the park.. Full of water.. When I was walking around last night I could swear I smelt ... sewage.. I don't think it was..
This is nasty overspill..
But to be honest the water did flow alright.. Truth is no ditch is designed to handle what we got yesterday.. Not this sized anyway.
The north park had water.. It's hard to put into perspective when you don't live here or haven't seen it ever.. This is a third of the park under water.. There was more water in there as I could tell when I walked down there last night it was squishing.. I didn't want to doddle so I got out through the maze and mine field that was the branches down there..
The branch that fell during the wind portion of the storm.. Wind driven rain.. or tornado or hurricane or...
Over flowing ditch..
There were branches down on the south side but I decided I better get back home just in case..
Here it is the day after the night before also known as morning.. And morning it was feeling like.. The Caspien pink tomato variety really took it in the shorts.. A small branch or maybe it originally was big hit it.. And was left behind some leafs.. Sadly it took a good chunk of he plant itself.. What was a point of pride now has been left to wonder what could have been..
The devastation wasn't as bad in the early light of day..
The gas meter tomato plants.. come on sun, heal me..
The vines heading towards the yard still look like crisis.. what crisis..
And through it all some plants seemed to thrive..
Then come to the front and..
The memorial tree looks every bit like it did the night before..
I had irrigation set to help with the grass that I tried that aerator idea.. I had to remove it to keep it from getting ruined while the branches would be picked up..
The Runges came by while we were out checking the damages.. Thankfully we were able to keep them from taking all the tree away..
