The variety of pumpkins are the really big giant ones.. This one is about the size of a basketball right now.. In most pumpkin's case this would be just about done growing.. In this variety this has just barely started growing..
Same as just above.. Give me heat give me HEAT... I hate saying bring on the heat but.. These guys need it more than anything else I am growing..
The tomato under the kitchen window.. Up until just about a little over a week ago this guy looked destined for oh wells ville.. As in Oh well maybe next year.. This ting has kicked it into the next gear.. Remember, this one was in a bucket for over a month being moved in and out of the house to protect it from excessive cold, snow and heavy rain..
This pumpkin in the yard was one of the first to set on.. It is smaller than the one in the tree by about half..
Tomatoes in the gas meter planter.. By the way the entry that I said it looks like a weed but it is not.. It was.. What caused me to think it was a tomato was the blooms that are produced by tomato plants.. It had them.. But then on closer inspection the tomato plant was intertwined with the weed.. That was a HUGE weed.. I clipped it and fed it to the compost tumbler..
When the pumpkin takes over the yard.. This vine is headed for the pine tree.. That might be a no no in my books.. The pine needles might not be as friendly as the other tree is..
The main pumpkin patch is loaded with them setting on.. In fact all told there might be two dozen setting on.. But that will take away from those that are growing.. So clipping the blossoms will begin this coming week to make the pumpkin plants focus on those that are growing well.. Last year I waited too long to clip them off, this year I will start clipping this week..
These are growing the opposite direction I want them to grow.. They are headed for the ally.. I would rather they head toward the yard..
Hard to believe that last week was the midway point of summer what with school starting in about two weeks.. The experimenting with the grass (aerating) was done last Tuesday.. An experiment to see if I can get the grass to grow with less watering.. This idea hit after trying the side of the house and that area isn't growing any better but it is easier to walk on barefooted.. This is the first year I am having troubles walking barefoot in the lawn.. It feels like stickers are everywhere this year.. I have been mowing the lawn at the highest setting with the idea that the grass needs less watering if it is taller.. I didn't see that but it might be that way, we are now in the dog days of summer and that means hot.. HOT ass days.. So I lowered the platform by one notch two weeks ago and threatened to go one more but now the lawn is burning up.. Do the areas that are burning up need the aerating idea?? They might but it is getting to the point where if the areas that I did this to don't recover by the end of August then it will be a third idea that didn't work trying to get the grass to grow better this year.. Planting grass by seed in two different ways has produced the grass growing but then it stops.. Why??? I have no idea..
