Todays entry of the garden adventures.. This is the tree pumpkin and it is almost fully developed.. Every time I look at this thing my arms ache just trying to figure out how to get it out of there.. What a great place for it to grow... So well protected I wouldn't have been able to get it to grow there if I tried to..
The gas meter tomatoes.. Great growing area.. I've had a few of them.. Fantastic flavor..
Mass of tomato vines..
The tree pumpkin again.. There is some green on it on the lower areas.. I was afraid it was starting to rot but it isn't..
The pumpkin patches both look like a dog ran through it, more than once..
The pumpkin above here is longer than any of the others are..
This one is one of several that have that pimply variety look to them.. I think this is the early stages of vine rot.. I won't remove it from the vine unless they get mushy..
So how many are there going to be?? Right now I am hoping for a dozen well developed pumpkins.. That would be a record for me.. The most I've ever had is seven..
This is how I'm trying to keep one of the vines above the trash can area.. Using a strap tied around a walnut tree and around the lilac bush that the pumpkin vine is currently holing on to.. The idea was to put the strap around the vine but instead did the lilac only and hope the pumpkin vine will hold on as the pumpkins develop..
The pumpkins are in the ally and so far are being left alone from passerbyer people.. passerbyers as it were..
So what is the over all goal here?? I have no idea.. Watching these pumpkins grow it's always fun to watch them grow.. This variety are the giants and are bigger than anything I've ever grown before.. This years has been bigger than last year or the very first attempt at growing.. Now there might be people that might ask am I trying to brak a record and the answer would be yes if there was a chance at it.. There isn't one that could break a record on my vine, and the main reason is the leaves have taken it in the shorts both by the weather and the bugs.. Also vehicles have driven on the very eges of the vines, but also gogs look like they have trounced through the vine areas of both patches.. The pimply pumpkin is .. That's not a good sign.. I'm figuring on watering the pumpkins through labor day and then shutting water off to them.. Any pumpkins that have set on by the first of labor day will be allowed to develop, any that set on after that will not be and will be aborted.. We have a celebration here on that weekend and I am hoping they won't get destroyed. It has never happened before but there is always a first time for everything..
