My uncle was here recently (last week, when winter made a surprise visit as well) and after they went to bed one night mom made the comment "did you see how thin he has become?" and my answer was yeah, I noticed his arms are really thin, and then I told her how I was afraid how my arms will look when I get to that age.. Both of my arms are screwed up with my ability to touch my shoulders stopped happening by the time I was in fifth grade, the same year the school got a weight machine (HURRAY, NOW MAX OUT.. how fucking stupid was that!!??) And I was one that should have NOT started lifting weights before I was at least in high school because both of my arms started to snap crackle and POP like mad.. My left arm is the size of a grapefruit on the opposite side of my elbow and has been that way since then.. What's that going to be like when I'm that age?? I never gave it much thought, until now.. My right arm I can't bend my arm to where I can touch my shoulder with my hand.. I see people do this all the time and wonder what it is like to have full range of motion like that. Then in 2001 I redislocated my left arm, sort of bent it backwards a bit.. Not horribly bad but it locked up and took a half an hour for me to get it unlocked.. Since that day I couldn't do a few things the same way.. Shaving being one of them, I've had to shave right handed exclusively until May of this year when I tried to shave a part of my face I have troubles reaching with my right hand.. And surprise surprise.. my arm locked up but I tolerated the pain and shaved, and the next time I was able to shave that small spot with my left hand.. And still do.. So is it getting better?? No it locks up regularly.. Why not get surgery done?? That might work.. But I've seen people rely on surgery to fix things and been disappointed so I think a little inconvenience is ok.. I'll live..
Ok, now to the latest controversy.. Who knew getting an album for free could cause such a shit fest.. I think it was the way it was done where if you have an i-Tunes account you got it for free weather you wanted it or not.. I'm talking of course about the new U2 album "Songs of Innocence" Where they forced the album as a free download.. That to me was wrong, they should have offered it free sure no problem there but forcing the album on people was way wrong.. They should have had a box pop up saying do you want this free download from U2? and then have a yes or no button.. They likely would have had as many people say yes as they forced, it's just the idea of getting something forced on you.. I think that was the biggest beef everyone had.. I like to think if Pink Floyd did the same thing it would be looked upon the same way as what U2 did..
Speaking of Pink Floyd, Their new album "The Endless River" is due to be released next month and when I heard they were finally going to release the extras from their Division Bell sessions I thought, yea, I'll buy that.. But hold on a second.. These songs are the songs from that session, but augmented with full vocals and the like.. If there were a choice I'd like to hear the songs as they were before being touched up, because from what I heard the second lot were pretty much done back then.. Maybe some needed to be done to get the songs to be more up to the Floyd standards.. But I think they would be surprised that true fans would love to hear the creative process.. Some box sets show that.. Some groups wouldn't think of doing that.. Mostly because, such as the case with Pink Floyd The Wall album, the demos were quite good but some needed a lot of production, help from the producer since Roger wasn't writing with David anymore.. Yes there are co written credits on the album, but they were done when the guys weren't in the studio together.. It really is a wonder The Wall ever got done at all..
So will I get the new Floyd album?? I think I will check to see if it rates a buy or not.. i think Roger Waters is about to finally release the Wall tour live DVD set shortly.. That I want..
