The three letters in the subject line were the dreaded words I hated to hear at this time of the year.. In fact it seems like as soon as the 4th of July gets over the next thing would be BTS.. and those letters are Back To SCHOOL (dun dun dun DUNNNNN!)... Yes those dreaded words were at least for me meant back to what I hated most.. My classmates that were more torment than anything..
Had to look at routers last week.. The Netgear router I had crapped out.. Sadly it wasn't for anything but my ignorance that I was looking at familiar to replace the one we had before.. This one looked good and the old one was blinking.. Meaning it was on.. off then on again without reason.. That's hard to do anything on the computer online and when you use the roku it really blows.. So the new one lasted 11 months, and the warranty... Well let's just say Netgear knows the wording to use on that, as well as setting up their web site that gives you the ability after a runaround to realize that after the third time around it begins to feel like one of those "how do you keep a polock busy" jokes.. You know where you write how do you keep a polock busy on both sides of a piece of paper.. So I start looking at routers and with me I try not to impulse buy, on anything ... It's rare that I get anything without some research going into it.. This router I wanted to be what we need now.. Try to future proof anything, I dare you.. It's a guessing game that will screw you over.. Sure enough they tell you this is the direction the internet is going and sure enough it goes the opposite.. Our internet is what it is and I haven't heard of any update to a new technology coming but sure as shit it might get updated to fiber optic (yeah right...) So I check with people I know and most of what they know is not much, on the router front.. When I start looking at routers or in the case of earlier in the summer mom was wanting a new computer so I start looking at computers again and the Chrome book starts to look like the way to go.. Trouble is no one has one. Not in Podunk Nebraska.. So that got shelved.. Now the router is front stage, I've been looking at routers for nearly a week now.. Up until yesterday I looked at routers at sites like Amazon and Walmart and then several other sites.. Went to the local Walmart to maybe buy a router but found nothing that I wanted.. Buying on line is alright, buying in the store is the prefered way especially if you need it NOW.. Which I don't but we are living with a router that was questionable at best a year ago.. That same feeling creeps in when a show gets to buffering on the roku.. Is it crapped out again and for the last time?? I want this router to still have some life to it when I get the new router, so there is that feeling that it might should still work in a pinch.. So which router did I settle on?? A company I had never heard of before.. TP.. The reviews were extremely good on the one I settled on and the reviews were good on ALL of their routers.. So I feel good about this one.. There were other reasons for choosing this router but this was good enough.. Wasn't future proof, it is more for now than anything.. Looking at routers that are more expensive the question of how long will it last creeps in.. The old router we have now is closing in on five years old.. with a year off for bad behaviour.. The more expensive ones are future proof?? Doubtful, they just have extras that might be neat to try but my feeling is that if it's more than a router then it might go to hell quicker. And I really don't need a router/toaster/juicer/George Forman grill combo, I just need a router.. And that's exactly what I'm getting..
