File this in the when it rains it pours folder.. Friday early evening I get the router to work after the techie from out ISP couldn't.. There was this feeling in the back of my mind that it was more than likely a temporary fix.. Last night as the storm was working it's way across our area I was doing some stuff on the net and sure enough the power dipped ever so slightly and the internet connection was interupted.. So what was the problem?? I start going over the steps of what could be the issue, starting with the power cycle of the router.. Well the router was the culprit before so it had to be this time.. I power cycle it, then try a few other things including the diagnostics check.. That turned up nothing.. Then I hooked directly to the modem.. Power cycled this and still no internet.. So after a few more things I decided to "pop the cherry" of that modem that I got Friday, So I hook it up, and get it going and still no internet.. Well was that a waste of time?? After two hours of going through everything I knew how to do the last thing I thought was give up.. So after a second runthrough of everything I already did twice, I gave up.. Set the computer to convert all the video files I shot yesterday and went up and watched boring as hell regular tv.. I'm officially hooked on streaming, after watching the Indianapolis 500 on the Roku Sunday I am hooked, plus there is just a shitload more to watch on this little box than cable has to offer (R.I.P. cable TV).. so after watching through the third quarter of the basketball game I came down to check the internet.. It was on!!.. But after checking some sites that wouldn't come on I had to reset the router security settings yet again.. So this time out of pure frustration it got a new name, the network has a new name.. Out of frustration i got some of the more interesting names for different sites, such as my Yahoo email address of buzzmunkey, this network got a new name.. Without really thinking I named it out of the hours of frustration the new name is "Fucking piece of shit".. So anyone who wants to login to the network here now has to endure my sense of PISSED off at computer technologies and the lot... The PW is the same, the network name isn't. The idea is to get a new router shortly, of either the same or slightly higher value as far as better coverage although I have no problems with the roku getting the signal right now, a little stronger signal might be a good idea..
Last night I watched a movie, or I should say I got in on a movie on that new Cryptic channel on the Roku.. I was on the verge of deleting the channel but then I thought I'd give it a try.. It's a streaming version of the channel that is on cable tv and satellite providers (?) (not sure if it is on any or not). The movie I was watching last night was ???? the sad thing about this channel is if you don't know the name of the movie or didn't get into it from the start it doesn't show the name of the movie, so what it was is beyond my knowing. But it was in black & white.. sort of.. This might be a public domain movie (in other words a pretty damn old movie) and so the black and white was sepia at times, and others it had a green tint to it. I had heard some old movies have this happen when they are on the shelf for so long.. But they show commercials on these movies, and what is great is they are period commercials, meaning they are from about the era that the movie was from.. I was on the Roku forum and they were talking about the fact that they show commercials from that era and back then they showed cigarette commercials and so they do here and someone made a complaint that they would not watch this channel and would delete it as well.. I think they are showing what was there and yeah they had cigarette commercials back then.. I wrote that I felt like the Roku viewer was a little smarter than your average cable/satellite tv watcher and would not fall prey to these commercials (i.e. wouldn't go out and start smoking).. Besides I am intrigued by these old shows and commercials.. I like to watch for all the aspects of it.. This movie I watched last night was so oddly acted and everything.. The car chase included the incredibly hard thing to do, getting the tire squealing on pavement sound when you are on dirt road, and grass.. As well the tire squealing sound on grass pasture.. Umm fake.. Never mind, it was just interesting to watch.. I like watching these old movies for the acting, the story plot and how they get the plot told.. Everything about it, from lighting and angles and everything.. Lights, camera action..
