Season ending surgery..

Another question might be asked why didn't I stop uploading or setting entries during the past week.. You know, because of what happened.. The entries for PNOP were set in May for  through the end of this year, and while I might have been able to reset the entries up I just.. Wasn't thinking that I should do that.. And besides I didn't do very much entry wise here or the other two blogs during this time.. I wanted the blog that will be shut down in a year and three weeks to still be going.. For whatever the reasons. unK?? 

End of the season.. I always hate this time of year, not fall but rather the end of the growing season.. The grass slows to a crawl as far as growing and when I mowed last week I got a higher percentage of leaves than I got grass which means the compost effect in the tumbler is nearly nothing going on in there.. That should change this week with adding the garden waste to it and the pumpkin guts when my nephew tries to carve the pumpkins.. I say try because these are the giant variety.. Although we were at the pumpkin patch this weekend there were pumpkins easily bigger than mine but.. I grew mine.. Somehow they grow here, I have no idea how because once the seed is in the ground the hard work is done for me.. The Earth does the heavy lifting as far as getting them to grow.. And grow they did.. It's fun to watch them grow the way they do.. I moved the videos a little, suggestive moves as in why don't you grow this way AWAY from the busy ally.. Like trying to tell your kids don't play in the street.. They don't listen..

How was the tomato production??  Truth is you can never get 100% of the potential out of the plants, or I can't.. I would say I got around... maybe ... 80% from the Roma.. 60% of the Moby Grape.. A small percentage of the Caspian pink* (around 10% very disappointing) and in the Earth box the containers choice was likely 20% for whatever the reason.. The Krimson or crimson I think they spell it with a K. Could be the reason they failed, they don't know how to spell.. They were a tough variety to judge when they were  ripe.. And they were odd mangled looking like they were in a  fight or some odd shit.. Those were around 50% and they get that high of a number not because I got to eat that many more of them, but rather because something else got to eat them.. Those were placed in the tumbler.. I think we ate maybe ten of those altogether.. Then there was that lowly tomato under the kitchen window.. That one is an Early Girl variety and still hasn't been kissed (by frost that is) and it was so slow to start and yet it is still alive and.. Well growing anyway..

*the Caspian Pink variety from a few years ago.. Actually 8 or 9 years ago, my memory is it grew quite well, produced very large fruits and was very tasty.. This one was in a pot, seemed like it was doing quite well then the wind came in August and the storm that nailed dads memorial tree rained down several branches on this tomato plant breaking limbs on it.. That might be why it was in trouble and while it can be weather tolerant, it wasn't this year..  

So cleaning the growing areas, the gas meter area will be cleaned out and set for next years growing season. Right now I'm thinking pumpkins there.. The ally planter might be... something.. Haven't decided yet.. The pumpkin planting area will be.. tomatoes again five years after the last time we grew them there.. And the last time we grew some there we got great tomatoes but we also got a cat in the deal.. Tomatoes give cats??  imagine that...

We don't suck... We're very unlucky.. That's what I am writing on all the Facebook sites I follow that are about Nebraska football... Truth is the team could be a very lucky to be 6-0 or maybe even 5-1 but instead are 2-4... Two up and four down, and that is really sad but there have been seasons in the recent past that Nebraska could have been about this way..   Truth is the season is so short, you have twelve... that's 12 games to get it going.. Before the game this past Saturday I thought there was an outside chance that we could go 9-0 to go 9-3 for the season.. Very outside chance but still it was there..  Wisconsin is having a down season this year.. in fact the entire BIG 10 is beatable this year.. I made the statement the last weekend of September that I thought the conference would be turned upside down or shaken up.. Michigan will be better or Jim will need his diaper changed.. He will shit himself.. Ohio State looks human in the first half of every game so far this season, but get it together at the half or the teams they are playing start thinking we can do this, it ain't that hard.. Yep, gotta play 60.. And speaking of playing 60, Nebraska plays a strong 57 minutes sometimes 58, even 59.. Then the other team gets the ball and scores.. There is a song they play in the fourth quarter, you know?? The song that they enter the stadium with.. Sirius by Alan Parsons Project.. The weakest song I've ever heard, they should get Unchained by Van Halen.. Talk about a nut crusher.. That will get anyone into a brawling mood.. I think they should change to that song.. At least when they are trying to get the crowd into screaming their ever loving ASSES OFF in that fourth quarter stretch.. Instead of lull you to sleep Sirius..  YAWWWWN... Don't get me wrong I like that song but it was a throw away track from the Eye In The Sky album.. He even said so.. He never thought anyone would use it as a fight song..  By the way before the season started I was wanting to never see Nebraska get their ever loving ass handed to them in a route ever again.. I guess watch what you ask for.. They have lost all four games by a combined ten points (or there abouts).. OUCH!! 

Then today I hear that yesterday Steve Sarkisian got fired from USC for being a a drunk at work.. Then Steve Spurrier is retiring effective immediately, and on Steve Czaban show this morning he says you know what this means..Spurrier quit because he was in dire straits with having his first losing record at any college..  How does someone "retire" in the middle of the season.. He isn't retiring.. He's QUITTING... There's a difference..

And then there is the Bronco's.. They are still unbeaten.. Talk about a team living on the edge.. But would you rather be living on the edge while winning or losing.. Living on the edge while losing is what is going on at Nebraska.. Just on the verge or edge of being 6-0.. But they're not.. Why is Denver without a loss??  Their Defense, a defense to be proud of.. The offense is less than mediocre, at least by Manning's standard.. But winning none the less and truth be told I'd rather they just win.. A two point win is just as good as a 21 point thrashing..  What would you change to the team??  I saw that on a site I follow on Facebook.. My answer is why touch it.. It's working.. I'd like to see Manning snap out of the funk he seems to be in but other than that.. Leave it alone.. Maybe 19-0 could happen.. That would be the ultimate prize.. Perfection supreme..

Regular mode..

I'm going to try not to take for granted this time.. Try not to ignore it.. Last Friday as we were headed to town to get groceries and stuff mom noticed a red leaf where the memorial tree was (is) .. The stump.. And what was a fluke of sorts.. Was dads tree growing again and if so HOW????...  Well I checked it that evening and sure enough it was growing again.. I was so happy and excited that I made mention on Facebook.. Then the next morning took these pictures to make it real..

It seems so small and dainty  compared with the stump of the tree that is is growing from.. My question is will it be alright or is this false hope??  I'm gonna water it through the winter, try to give it a gallon a week and see if it will continue the quest next spring.. At the rate the tree grew it was a few feet per year.. We had the tree for just about ten years maybe eleven and it was really nice and tall, starting at about five feet tall it really grew quite well.. Five years ago another wind knocked it over and everyone told me to just cut it down and start over.. I opted with trying to salvage it by way of straps and fence posts.. Left it tied that way for well over a year.. Unstrapped it and it grew more straight up after that.. But the leaves seemed to make the top of the tree more of a fan type of thing.. And for the next few years while it grew up, it didn't grow out.. I thought that was a good thing.. There were other winds, but none took the tree out.. Then two weeks before the storm that took the tree down, we had a similar wind that was without rain. A dry run if you will.. And it didn't damage the tree at all.. While damaging other trees and knocking the power out until close to midnight.. The storm that toppled the tree was heavy wind driven rain, kinda like a hurricane, took out our tree and several others in a three block area...  After the tree was taken out I weed wacked the stump to get the weeds out and likely nicked the stump... And that might have helped start this to grow.. Will it still be there next spring??  I'm gonna do what I can to help it.. I'm gonna try to put grass clippings and leaves on it, try to insulate it as much as I can.. Hope it works..

Friday night was the start of movie nights..  And the classic..

Risky Business.. Tom Cruise is Joel, a marketing "genius" that finds out how the market really works.. This was the first movie I remember ever seeing Tom Cruise in.. It also was where my influence from Tangerine Dream music came from as they have some seven or so songs sprinkled throughout the movie.. Starting with Love on a Real train.. (The Dream is always the same)

Tammy Pescatelli has one of those shows where she just watches the world around her and thinks funny shit up.. I get her stand up because I feel like i'm the same way.. For example I'm in the local walmart and this has happened several times now so I am honing in on the right comeback..  I'm looking at product on the shelves and just looking.. And a guy walks by asks me how I'm doing, do I need any help??  Nice opening hu??  And i say nope, I just look lost, it's my everyday look.. Or I tell him I'm talking to the product, amazing what you can learn when you listen to what it has to say..

American Heist with Adrien Brody..  A love story.. If there can be one in this type of movie..

METasTaSIS ..    Watch and feel the dejavu ...  I didn't watch this, it is a reader and besides that I saw the original and while this is a close remake (they even had the original creator doing the show).. I only saw until they ran the opening bit then gave up.. It's now in my timeline (the continue watching) and that will take a month or two to get it out..

Suicide theory.. This was more of a love story than anything else.. If there can be such a thing in a movie like this..

8:46 is sort of a documentary about the story behind a few people that the events of 9/11 (2001) touched..

Cold enough to get a sun tan

First frost predictions were saying the 17th of October.. Checking the forecast for a week away and we are looking at upper 70's for a week from now.. When is first frost then.. On Accuweather today is saying the 5th of November.. I usually mow three weeks beyond first frost to get the leaves mulched up..  That puts it on Thanksgiving day.. But likely it will be the first Thursday in December..  I've never mowed any later that the first week of November.. Mowing in December.. I've never worn a heavy coat and mowed before.. How weird would that be...   Seriously today felt more like early spring than early fall..  This year I wouldn't mind it being mild.. Although I will stop mowing more than likely at the same time as usual.. Around Halloween.. Then rake the rest??  Hard to believe, last year I raked into December.. It was nice last year too.. It's supposed to be mild this year.. Really, so what like the past five years??  Global warming is a farce.. If you say so..

of Guns.. cheese and things that go bump..

First a word about the PNOP blog.. The entries are through to the first of March.. Now March is the swimsuit month.. And since I have a shitload of these I will make March a .. a lot .. A LOT  of swimsuit entries.. 6659 pictures could make March a very busy month.. Or not.. Once you've seen one string bikini you've seen.. one.. actually why not do many..


The latest shooting .. Today at a Home Depot as it turns out some woman decided to take it on her part to help a worker there that was trying to get someone trying to shoplift to pay, this patron decided to take it on her part to help the worker there by shooting the guy to death that was trying to shoplift.. Guns are fun aren't they??  Makes me nervous to shop at any store.. The world has gone MAD!!  Seriously.. And there have been those .. Ben Carson GOP candidate who has said those people at that school in Oregon should have rushed that gun man.. HE WOULD HAVE.. I say BULLSHIT you would.. Sure if this were a movie and at the end of the day you can get up and dust yourself off and live to see tomorrow.. In the end those people were probably trying to think how do they do this.. How can I live through this??  Come on, no one knows how they would react.. And that old saying a good guy with a gun could do something in this situation.. Or if everyone had a gun.. Arm everyone.. I have said if everyone that day had a gun and reacted the way gung-ho gun happy people like Sarah Palin want you to react that everyone would have gotten their guns out and start shooting just willy nilly.. Turns out there was a guy there with a gun but he thought about what might happen.. He could have become a target himself in this day in age of shoot first and ask questions later policing.. And I would hope that there would be more people like him.. Because there could be more deaths than just the 9 or however many there were.. 

I have started to comment on entries pertaining to these events with "ABOLISH THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION NOW" on these entries.. Would getting rid of the NRA do any good??  Yes it would.. They pay the GOP to do absolutely NO legislation whatsoever.. And when one of their own, Gabby Giffords was shot in one of these shootouts and they did nothing about it and then Sandy Hook a few years ago...  and they did nothing.. There is no shooting that will make them human.. Why people vote republican I have no idea whatsoever..

( P.S.   Ok I was wrong about the lady killing the guy at Home depot.. I read a blurb and thought it was the truth.. You know how the news can be skewered... Well this was the case here.. I think the lady just wanted to shoot her gun.. Too bad it was at a couple of guys shoplifting.. What is this the wild west??  seriously lady, go to a shooting range if you want to shoot a gut and if you want to shoot at moving targets go to a paintball shooting range.. Those sound like fun.. )

Well another weekend, another odd set of shows.. Let me just say.. It was fun..  ...

Friday Night... This happened.. :

Days of Thunder.. Tom Cruise stars in this flick and if you had your eyes closed for the first minute or so could you tell which movie was starting, Days of Thunder or Top Gun.  Until Kenny Loggins kicks in with that synthi bass line of Danger Zone, then you can tell.. It literally is about the same music and for that matter story line.. Who saw that coming.. Back when I first bought this.. Yes I have this on VHS..  Why watch it on netflix??  Just because.. But when I first had this on tape it was really a way to show off the surround sound system.. Netflix can be limited on the surround sound, it does have surround sound but not as deep.. 

Kathleen Madigan..  Watching her it's like she is so relaxed at what she is doing.. Very funny as well..

Jane Fonda is Barbarella..  And she was really cute back in '68....  Yep another movie I had never seen all of before..

Anti-Social is the movie to fear.. Could this actually happen today?? The answer to that is what do you mean could this happen now, it already IS..  Except for the turning rabid, which sort of still is.. There are parts of this movie that have other movies like it thrown in.. The 28 days later feel, that RAGE virus thing.. The end is the beginning and it just goes on and on.. That part isn't in this movie but the part that is, the virus being spread by watching a video.. That part is real.. to a certain extant..

Women who kill.. With Amy Schumer as the headliner.. She's funny and I heard her on the old Opie and Anthony show.. She was so funny on their show, I knew she would break eventually and here three years later she is everywhere..

Hanger 10.. What can I say about this movie??  Well.. it's very.. well ...  um... it's alright.. I mean fairly predictable but interesting none the less.. It seems the smaller the cast of these UFO type of movies the more scary it can be.. The scary in this instance is suspense and nearly no blood and guts..   There are other movies like this, Area 51 for example, where the smaller the cast seemed to help.. In the case of Hanger 10 we see them as ultra cool with each other. Then they get into day two and the movie has that Blair witch feel to it as our heroes get lost in the woods.. The shaky camera and spotty sound help to enhance the freakout that is forthcoming and there are predictable gags scattered throughout the movie.. You just gotta love them.. Sound effects and screaming.. Yelling by the guys and moaning from out there beyond vision.. WHAT IS THAT??
